"The new Crew Classic design is now 14" wide verses 15" wide (see pix) 4 years ago. I travel overseas carry-on no matter how long the trip. This design adjustment affects me as it is 7% less packing space, and I can't fit my 14W shoes into it widthwise as with the old carry on. This adversely affects my packing strategy."

"I’ve had a number of Travelpro suitcases over the years and bought them for my wife and each of my kids when they graduated college. Most recently I had a Travelpro Crew 8, 22” rollaboard that I liked very much. I took good care of it, and it is still in great shape. On a flight last month, the top carry handle was broken by the airline. There is nothing else wrong with the bag. A broken carry handle IS NOT “normal wear & tear” as it essentially rendered the bag functionally un-usable. I was disappointed when Travelpro told me they no longer had replacement handles (a ~$10 fix). Travelpro offered (and I appreciated) a discount on a new bag. I purchased the Crew Classic Rollaboard which seemed closest to my prior bag. I am disappointed in the bag. Everything about it looks/feels “cheaper”, lower quality and, I suspect, less durable. For example, the interior straps and buckles to secure the contents seem much less robust than my Crew 8 bag. Also, the front ‘feet’ of the Rollaboard look like they could snap-off the first time it’s thrown around by an airline baggage handler. I’ve spoken to both airline personnel and people who have been in the luggage sales industry for decades. They have all said that while Travelpro used to be a very solid brand with bags that would last a long time, they have lost that quality and reputation. It seems now more of a ‘planned obsolescence’ approach. If I’m buying ‘disposable luggage’ there are less expensive options."
