When airlines publish carry-on size limits, they mean the overall size, wheels and handles included, so compare the overall number to your airline's limit.
Linear inches are height + width + depth. This bag measures 62.75 linear inches by case dimensions and 66.75 including wheels and handles. The standard checked-bag limit on most airlines is 62 linear inches (158 cm), so this bag runs slightly over. In practice it is accepted as a standard checked bag on most airlines, but a carrier that measures strictly may charge an oversize fee. If you fly airlines known for strict enforcement or are packing for a cruise line with hard limits, the Medium Check-In (25") stays comfortably inside 62 linear inches. Yes. The zippered expansion adds about 2 inches of packing depth, and a fully expanded bag may not fit a strict airline sizer. If your airline enforces its sizer, board with the bag unexpanded and save the expansion for the trip home or checked segments.
The lock ships set to 0-0-0. To set your own code: turn the dials to 0-0-0, remove the zipper pullers from the lock, press the reset button on the side of the lock with a pen until it clicks, choose your combination, then press or slide the release button. Use a 50/50 mixture of alcohol and water, apply with a soft cloth, and gently rub the affected area until the spot lifts. Let the bag air dry completely before storing. A little lemon juice in the mixture freshens the fabric. More care tips are in our customer FAQ.

"I was really excited to have this bag be our one checked family bag. The goal was to get things on wheels and save on checking fees. Sadly, this bag is considered oversize with Alaska. The max linear inches allowed for Alaska is 62" (this includes the handles and wheels). This bag measures 62. 75". With the wheels, you end up somewhere in the ballpark of 65". Dropping a bunch of money on a quality bag loses it's appeal when you go from $35 x 2 for checked bags to $150. What a bummer!
