"Well built with strong materials."Diane S.
Best for: Weekly road warriors who live out of the bin, and anyone tired of waiting at the carousel.
We publish both numbers. The case dimensions (the packing body only) are 21 x 14 x 9 in. The overall dimensions, which include wheels and carry handles, are 23 x 14.5 x 9 in. When airlines publish size limits they mean the overall size, so compare the overall number to your airline's limit.
Yes, for the major U.S. airlines: this bag is sizer-bin tested and fits the carry-on sizers and overhead bins on mainline aircraft of the major U.S. carriers. Like most premium carry-ons, its overall height (23 in.) is slightly above the commonly published 22 x 14 x 9 in. standard, and it still fits where it matters: the sizer and the bin.
| Airline | Published carry-on limit |
|---|---|
| American Airlines | 22 x 14 x 9 in. |
| Delta Air Lines | 22 x 14 x 9 in. |
| United Airlines | 22 x 14 x 9 in. |
| Southwest Airlines | 24 x 16 x 10 in. |
Regional jets have smaller bins, so expect to gate-check on those flights regardless of brand. See our carry-on size guide by airline for the full list, and remember every bag is covered by our 100-day trial.
Yes. The zippered expansion adds extra packing depth, and a fully expanded bag may not fit a strict airline sizer. If your airline enforces its sizer, board with the bag unexpanded and save the expansion for the trip home or checked segments.
Yes. The exterior fabric has a DuraGuard® coating that resists water and stains, so it holds up to rainy sidewalks and daily wear.

Use a 50/50 mixture of alcohol and water, apply with a soft cloth, and gently rub the affected area until the spot lifts. Let the bag air dry completely before storing. A little lemon juice in the mixture freshens the fabric. More care tips are in our customer FAQ.

The Platinum® Elite Carry-On Rollaboard® is praised for its perfect size, smooth wheels, and luxurious appearance. Customers appreciate its well-built quality, thoughtful features, and sturdy handle. However, opinions vary on the design and the functionality of the pockets and compartments.

"This is a great carry on bag. iI paced for a six day trip and didn't feel crammed for space at all. Every bit if the bag functions purposely. The fit and finish is excellent. I have every confidence this bag will last for many trips and years to come. You get what you pay for."
"I purchased the TravelPro Platinum Elite Carry-On based off the recommendation. While I am satisfied with the design, color, and quality of the suitcase, I am not sure I would buy the Platinum Elite again as many of its features do not seem worth the high price tag. For example, I appreciate the suitor option but it is wasted space and I much would've preferred they include a TSA lock over a suitor. Additionally, the TSA charging feature is useful but still doesn't make it worth the nearly $400 price tag. Finally, the bag has significant weight to it. I am considering returning to purchase a lighter-weight bag that will cover all the features I need at a lower price point. I should note that my original decision to purchase the Platinum Elite stemmed from its improved warranty promise as I hoped to have a bag that I will not need to replace for 10-15+ years."
"I bought this Rollaboard because I have a similar one I bought nearly 40 years ago, and it is still going strong. This new one works very well and there are some improvements like the compression strap system and extra pockets. The three things I see need improvement are the front pocket zippers stick a bit, the lighter weight handle assembly takes up more room than the older unit, and the wardrobe on my older unit was easier to use. It is still a great product."
"The airline finally found my lost bags by the airline and I hadn’t opened the new boc"
"style and materials are nice. I thought it came with four wheels instead of two, like my numerous other TravelPro Platinum Elites. . . Huge mistake, it is much more work to lug around an airport. I will likely return. I don't recommend this one (two spinners) but we love our many other one's with four spinners. We are hard on them but they last about two years or so."
"I wish Travelpro would have consulted me on the design and build of this bag before they made any changes. I appreciate the external and internal appearance of the bag though it "feels" smaller as compared to my previous Travelpro bag of the same make and model. Construction feels solid during my early use. Hopefully it will hold up as well as my previous bag which lasted 10 years. As compared to my previous Travelpro bag, they made one of the outside zipper pockets into two smaller pockets, limiting how these pockets can be used. The layout garment section does not fold well if you have more than one suit as it appears they have decreased the depth of the garment section. Travelpro moved the internal straps holding clothing, etc. in place from a horizontal position on the bag to vertical which may not be a big deal for some but this makes it more cumbersome for me to pull anything out of the bag without completely unzipping the main compartment. Lastly, the new bag has a tendency to tip over when I have a second bag strung across the telescoping handle. This was not a problem with my previous bag."
"Lightweight, durable and surprisngly roomy. Exactly what I needed."
"It's too wide for the aisle in the plane."
"My only concern is I wish it had 4 wheels."
"I don’t know who this is designed and marketed for—maybe a traveling executive with perfectly creased clothes and no spare anything. This is functional utilitarianism at its best—no outside pockets for last minute or accessible items, no stretchiness in the fabric body on an unforgiving frame, and an interior crowded with an unknown bondage device for restraining clothes. I travel internationally for wildlife photography—I need a bag I can bash, stuff things into, and cram into the space of a duffel bag. This one ain’t it—by a long shot. It’s built incredibly well, I’ll give you that, but it has the utility of a left-handed screwdriver, and the charm of a German school teacher. Does that convey how I felt about this piece of…. luggage?"
